Welcome to Children’s Literature (“Children’sLit,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of our websites, online platforms, author and illustrator services, publisher programs, directories, review submission systems, and any other online services that link to these Terms (collectively, the “Site”).

By accessing or using the Site, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Site.

1. Eligibility

To use the Site, you must be:

  • At least 18 years old, or
  • A parent or legal guardian consenting for a minor to use the Site in accordance with applicable laws.

By using the Site, you represent and warrant that you meet these requirements.

2. Use of the Site

You agree to use the Site only for lawful purposes and in compliance with these Terms. You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
  • Ensuring all information you provide is accurate and up to date
  • All actions taken under your account

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access for violations of these Terms.

3. Accounts and Registrations

  • Joining the Author & Illustrator Program
  • Submitting a book for professional review
  • Creating a publisher or author profile
  • Applying for directory listing
  • Accessing member services

You agree not to create an account using false or misleading information or on behalf of someone else without authorization.

4. Paid Services, Fees, and Billing

Some Site features require payment, including but not limited to:

  • Professional review submissions
  • Author & Illustrator Program membership
  • Directory listings
  • Publisher Program participation
  • Promotional placements

By submitting payment information, you authorize us or our payment processor to charge the applicable fees.

All fees are:

  • Non-refundable, unless expressly stated otherwise
  • Subject to change with notice
  • Exclusive of applicable taxes

If a payment fails, we may suspend or revoke access to paid services until the balance is resolved.

5. Content You Submit

You may submit or upload content to the Site, including:

  • Manuscripts or book files
  • Illustrations or artwork
  • Biographical information
  • Marketing materials
  • Metadata about your book or profile
  • Directory listing elements
  • Requests for professional review content

(“User Content”)

You retain ownership of your User Content.

However, by submitting User Content, you grant Children’sLit and CLCD, LLC a worldwide, nonexclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, transferable license to:

  • Use, reproduce, adapt, modify, publish, display, distribute, and store the content
  • Deliver services such as reviews, listings, or marketing
  • Display information on your author or illustrator profile
  • Promote Children’sLit programs in a manner that reasonably includes your profile or materials

This license is necessary for us to provide the services you request.

You represent and warrant that:

  • You have full rights to submit the User Content
  • The content does not infringe on the rights of any third party
  • The content does not violate any law or regulation
  • The content is not defamatory, obscene, or harmful

We may refuse, modify, or remove User Content at our discretion.

6. Professional Reviews and Editorial Content

Authors and illustrators may submit books or materials for a professional review.

You acknowledge and agree that:

  1. Reviews are independent editorial opinions provided by reviewers who may express honest feedback, including constructive or critical commentary.
  2. Children’sLit does not guarantee favorable reviews.
  3. You may not request edits to the substance of a professional review unless a factual error exists.
  4. We may publish reviews on:
    • ChildrensLit.com
    • CLCD.com
    • Promotional materials
    • Partner channels
    • Third party databases as licensed
  5. Once published, reviews are part of the permanent editorial record unless removed for legal or policy reasons.

7. Author & Illustrator Directory Listings

If you join the Children’sLit Directory:

  • You are responsible for ensuring your profile is accurate and does not infringe on others’ rights.
  • We reserve the right to update formatting, structure, and placement of profiles.
  • We may remove or modify listings that violate policy or at your written request.

Listings may be displayed publicly and indexed by search engines.

8. Intellectual Property Rights

The Site and all content created by Children’sLit or CLCD, including:

  • Website design
  • Layout
  • Logos
  • Text, graphics, icons, and imagery
  • Professional reviews and editorial content
  • Metadata and curated information
  • Proprietary assessment or evaluation tools

are owned by or licensed to CLCD, LLC and protected by intellectual property laws.

You may not:

  • Copy
  • Modify
  • Reproduce
  • Distribute
  • Reverse engineer
  • Sell
  • Create derivative works from

any part of the Site except as expressly permitted by written agreement.

9. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Upload false, misleading, or deceptive content
  • Use the Site to harass, threaten, or defame others
  • Interfere with the operation of the Site
  • Attempt unauthorized access to accounts or systems
  • Use automated tools (scrapers, bots, crawlers) without permission
  • Misrepresent your identity or qualifications
  • Upload malware or harmful code

Violation may result in suspension or termination of access.

10. Third Party Links and Integrations

THE SITE AND ALL SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties, including:

  • Merchantability
  • Fitness for a particular purpose
  • Non-infringement
  • Availability or reliability of the Site
  • Accuracy of listings or submissions
  • Outcomes related to publishing, sales, or promotional success

We do not guarantee:

  • Book sales
  • Visibility outcomes
  • Acceptance by publishers
  • Impact of reviews
  • Website availability or uptime

12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

CLCD, LLC, Children’sLit, our affiliates, employees, directors, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including:

  • Lost profits
  • Lost sales
  • Lost opportunities
  • Loss of data
  • Business interruption

Our total liability for claims arising out of or relating to use of the Site will not exceed the greater of:

  1. The total amount paid by you for services in the 12 months preceding the claim, or
  2. $100

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Children’sLit, CLCD, LLC, and their respective officers, employees, contractors, and agents from any claims, damages, liabilities, or expenses arising out of:

  • Your use of the Site
  • Your User Content
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your infringement of third party rights

14. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Site:

  • For violation of these Terms
  • For fraudulent or abusive behavior
  • As required by law
  • For non payment of services
  • When we choose to discontinue services

Upon termination:

  • Your license to use the Site ends
  • We may retain or delete User Content consistent with our Privacy Policy

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes must be brought in state or federal courts located in New Jersey, and you consent to jurisdiction in those courts.

16. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. When we do:

  • We will update the “Last Updated” date above
  • Continued use of the Site means you accept the revised Terms

Material changes may be accompanied by additional notice as required by law.
