THE CLCD WILL NOW BE AVAILABLE TO WALDO MEMBERS

Bethesda MD - April 1, 2003 - The Children’s Literature Comprehensive Database Company, LLC (CLCD) (www.childrenslit.com), announces that it has entered into an agreement with WALDO, the Westchester Academic Library Directors Organization to offer the CLCD database. WALDO offers consortial pricing for Web accessible databases and services. “We are pleased to be included as one of the WALDO consortia providers,” stated Marilyn Courtot, the president of The CLCD Company, LLC. “To be able to make the CLCD database available to its members should be a great benefit to them, since it is the most comprehensive source of information about children’s books and related media. As libraries watch their budgets decline, they are looking for ways to maximize their dollars and purchasing through WALDO will help.” WALDO offers its embers an opportunity to place orders at their convenience, at low costs, and facilitates database trials and training. Their monthly newsletter like the monthly newsletter issued by CLCD highlights new databases (features and services). In addition, WALDO is able to actually take the show on the road and give members an opportunity to see the product for themselves. It is a cost effective way for us to do business, since it would be practically impossible for us to contact the thousands of customers who participate in WALDO, noted Marilyn Courtot.

The CLCD database has or is currently participating in a number of trials with school districts across the county. In addition, the database was recently part of the trials in Ohio: INFOhio—the information network for Ohio schools and OPLIN—the Ohio Public Library network. Currently, the CLCD database is under review by members of CAMNET—which covers the southern portion of New Jersey and INFOLINK also located in New Jersey.

Among CLCD’s most recent subscribers are The Queens Borough Public Library (NY), Jacksonville University (FL), University of West Alabama (AL), Tecumseh Local School District (OH), Riverside Elementary School (GA), Montessori School of Holmes Run (VA), and Compass Point Books. The database is appropriate for use by anyone with an interest in children’s literature and is designed for use by professionals as well as library patrons and students.
