FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The CLCD Company will be responsible for developing, manufacturing, licensing, distributing and selling Children's Literature's extensive database of children's book reviews and related databases in electronic and other formats. "Through the World Wide Web, Children's Literature can make its vast collection of data about children's books and related materials available to interested parties anywhere in the world," Marilyn Courtot, President of the CLCD Company, explained. "Our new structure will better position us to respond to those opportunities and enable us to better manage and consolidate our existing resources. In addition, the new structure will improve our ability to raise capital and employ or contract with qualified personnel who can help our venture flourish," Courtot added. The CLCD Company will focus initially on compiling and distributing information about children's books in print. The database already includes MARC records for filmstrips, motion pictures and videos, and future plans include the addition of audio and video reviews, multimedia reviews, book awards and prizes, and more. The expansion of services is part of Children's Literature's strategic plan-to become the focal point for information relating to children's books. Decisions on what material will be added in the future will be based on comments and opinions received from customers and potential customers. Children's Literature will continue to operate as a separate business entity and will be responsible for generating new children's book reviews, publishing Children's Literature's monthly newsletter, and maintaining the Children's Literature website. Children's Literature and the CLCD database can be seen at the upcoming ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans (June 26-29) and at the American Association of School Librarians in Birmingham (November 10-14). Now in its sixth year, Children's Literature is dedicated to helping teachers, librarians, childcare providers, and parents make appropriate literary choices for children from infancy through young adulthood. Founded in 1993 by Marilyn Courtot, a librarian, Children's Literature's mission is to promote literacy through the love of reading. In addition to the CLCD service, Children's Literature publishes a monthly newsletter as well as several unique bibliographies that serve as a time-saving guide to the best of the best among the dizzying maze of more than 80,000 children's books in print. Children's Literature's team of 100 reviewers includes librarians, editors, teachers and physicians. Its annual "Top Choice List," now in its fourth year, provides a guide to the very best children's books that are published each year, and has been cited in several major publishers' catalogs. Children's Literature also licenses its book reviews to BarnesandNoble.com. Children's Literature's World Wide Web site (http://www.childrenslit.com) receives thousands of visits each month and has been called "a treasured resource" and "a great service for parents of voracious readers."
