Children’s Literature, a national monthly newsletter and prominent website for children’s book reviews written by more than 150 nationally respected reviewers, has just signed a licensing agreement with Barnes & Noble to supply the international bookselling giant with the newsletter’s proprietary database of 10,000 children’s book reviews as well as an additional 250 new reviews each month.

Barnes & Noble, Inc. is the world's largest bookseller. It is the leading operator of book superstores in America, with 484 stores nationwide, in 48 states. It also operates 555 bookstores in shopping malls, in 46 states. The company also publishes books under its own imprint for exclusive sale through its retail stores and nationwide mail order catalogs. Tom Simon, head of data and content for Barnes & Noble, said the company plans to use the Children’s Literature book reviews to support its on-line bookselling operation.

BarnesandNoble.com is a leading online retailer of books and is the exclusive bookseller to America Online's 11 million subscribers. BarnesandNoble.com has exclusive partnerships with over 1,600 affiliates, including CNN Interactive, Disney, Lycos and ZD Net. BarnesandNoble.com continues to bring bookselling innovation to the Internet. It was the first online bookseller to offer deep discounts and the first to carry an extensive inventory on its shelves. Currently the company stocks more than

400,000 titles in its state-of-the-art distribution center, which is the largest standing inventory of any bookseller online.

Bob Asleson, former president of R.R. Bowker, who directs the marketing of Children’s Literature’s extensive database for its owner and founder Marilyn Courtot says, "Our agreement with Barnes & Noble represents an acknowledgment of the marketing value placed on independent book reviews in general and of the high caliber of Children’s Literature’s reviews in particular."

Children’s Literature’s concisely written book reviews cover a wide range of fiction and nonfiction selections and evaluate the merits of both the text and illustrations. The reviews are used extensively by teachers, librarians, childcare providers, parents and home-schooling programs to select quality books for children of all ages.

Of the 10,000 entries that comprise Children’s Literature’s backfile of reviews, more than half have been written by Children’s Literature reviewers. The balance has been culled from such renowned independent reviewer sources as Dr. Beverly Kobrin, an internationally recognized authority on nonfiction books and publisher of The Kobrin Newsletter; Jan Lieberman, librarian and publisher of The TnT Newsletter; Susie Wilde, book commentator for WUNC and reviewer for several regional newspapers and magazines and Deb Briatico, Director of SEMNET, and Editor of SEMNET News, a publication for teachers and parents of gifted and talented students.

In addition to its newsletter and website, Children’s Literature has also established the Children’s Literature Choice List which recognizes 150 children’s books of excellence chosen from among the 3,000 books that the newsletter’s reviewers evaluate each year.
