CLCD NEWSLETTERVolume 3, Issue 1January 2004

A new year is here - and a new review source, as well. We are pleased to announce the addition of CM: Canadian Review of Materials to the Children's Literature Comprehensive Database. CM reviews books, videos, audio recordings and CD-ROMS published or produced in Canada, or published elsewhere but of special interest to Canada. This electronic reviewing journal is published biweekly from September to June by The Manitoba Library Association.

We will be at ALA Midwinter in San Diego and, as always, look forward to seeing you there. Please stop by our booth T143 in the Exhibits Hall to say hello. May 2004 be a happy and healthy new year and provide you rewarding opportunities in both your professional and personal lives.

Search Tip of the Month

If you are looking for all of the books for a specific publisher or imprint we have implemented a feature to make it easier for you. If you know the ISBN: prefix for the publisher or imprint, just key it in without the dash and follow it with an asterisk. For example if you want all of the books from Cartwheel, an imprint of Scholastic, enter 0439* and it will pull up all ISBN: numbers that start with those first four numbers. It will work for any imprint or publisher. The asterisk is the wild card character for anything that follows the string that you are looking for.

This Month's Features

January 20 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. You can prepare your display and be ready for book requests by checking out our feature of reviewed titles. Keep in mind that if you have the book on display you may need another copy for your students and patrons to check out.

Let it snow…..and enjoy a good book. "Snow, Snowflakes and Snowmen" is our theme for this winter phenomenon. This feature will provide you with picture books, beginning readers, and nonfiction titles that will explain the science of, and celebrate, snow.

Our author feature this month shines the spotlight on Neil Waldman whose new book, The Snowflake: A Water Cycle Story, fits perfectly into the season. Discover how he created the illustrations for the snowflake in his book and learn about his other interesting projects.

Spreading the News

Our monthly newsletter is now available to everyone within an organization, not just the primary contact. A feature at www.childrenslit.com will provide you with a form allowing you to sign up for just the electronic newsletter. We loved one of the most recent quotes about CLCD from Karla Schmit, Professor Library Department, Librarian Laboratory School, Shippensburg University ---"Every author, every title, every time."

The Children's Literature Comprehensive Database is your most complete source of information about children's books.
