CLCD NEWSVolume 1, Issue 2February 2002

It was a pleasure to meet so many of you at ALA Midwinter and to have our subscribers and contributors from several review sources stop by to say hello. We loved hearing how you are using the Children's Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD).

ALA Midwinter was abuzz with the announcements of the major American children's book awards. You probably cut the article out of the paper and did one of two things with it:

  1. You placed it on your bulletin board where it is already beginning to yellow.
  2. You put it on your desk and now it is lost in the paper shuffle.

We are happy to tell you that the Children's Literature Comprehensive Database is here to help. You can clear your bulletin board and clean off your desk, for the awards information will be available in the database. With a simple search you can access the 2002 winners and honor books of the Pura Belpré, Batchelder, Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Newbery, Michael L. Printz, and the Robert F. Sibert Awards and our 15,000 other award entries. (Please note that our normal update cycle is midmonth). The reviews of the recent ALA award winning books are available now on the Children's Literature web site.

Let us also assist you in your Valentine's Day, Chinese New Year and Black History Month displays with our new features for February. This month we are highlighting a collection of books for Valentine's Day; a short feature about Laurence Yep; books by Langston Hughes and conversations with Bryan Collier and Willie Perdomo regarding their latest book about Langston as well as updates to the features about Patricia McKissack, Jerry Pinkney and Julius Lester. These are available to you at no charge at www.childrenslit.com.

Give yourself a Valentine this month by subscribing to the Children's Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD). You'll discover what a valuable time saving tool it is.
