Bobbie Hinman has a B.S.degree in Elementary Education and is right at home with the world of children’s literature. The Knot Fairy is the first in her series of whimsical fairy books. It is about a tiny fairy, dressed in pajamas, who visits children while they sleep and is responsible for the knots and tangles in their hair.
Bobbie comments that, “from my favorite subject in school (writing) to a career as a published author, my journey has been exciting. I love to share with students my belief that they too can accomplish their dreams. The elements to success are to remain open to change, believe in yourself, be willing to take risks, work hard and never give up.” The Sock Fairy, the second in her series, will be published in early 2008.
The Knot Fairy
Illustrated by Kristi Bridgeman
The Knot Fairy provides an explanation for all those hair tangles that bedevil a busy school morning. A “tiny fairy with purple wings” flits through the night, lands on dreaming heads and “ties little knots, one after another.” This rhyming story by Maryland author Bobbie Hinman will turn grumbles into grins because who can resist the mischievous pajama-clad creature depicted so whimsically by artist Kristi Bridgeman? 2007, Best Fairy Books, $15.95. Bobbie’s presentation kindles children’s imaginations and teaches them about the writing process. She leads them through a lively and though-provoking discussion, beginning with the realization that a book starts with an idea. She then encourages the students to explore new ideas for their own stories. After listening to her story presentation, the children will love to sing along with a delightful, original song on the accompanying CD.
